Ma visite au musee

My Visit to the Museum proposes a walk through the modern art galleries of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.

Accompanied by a museum guide, Jean and his magical yellow briefcase, discover more than 30 paintings that shaped the modern art movement in Quebec between 1899 and 1965.

Julien created the character of Jean, the guide, based on the self-portrait of painter Jean-Paul Lemieux as a child (see the last illustration) and the storyline where Jean appears as the ticket seller at the beginning of the book and disappears into Lemieux’s painting on the last page. This painting is the most popular with children visiting the collection. The yellow briefcase is real - all the guides carry one to contain their props for various activities. Moustique, the strange blue dog is a take on the sculpture Bestiary no. 22, by Alfred Pellan that stands in one of the museum’s gardens, in plain view of visiting children.
